Meet Chris and Kristin. They are beautiful and they live in a beautiful place.
Some people have it all, and some people have a little more than that. They are college sweethearts from UVA who imagined a life of adventure and traveling. And that’s exactly what they did. Chris and Kristin built a beautiful eco-friendly lodge on a secluded beach in Panama called Palmar Tent Lodge. It is a paradise for backpackers and honeymooners alike, where guests stay in luxury tents, nestled in a rainforest on a white sand beach.
What they have built is a testament, more so a temple, to who they are as people. They like to play hard and work hard. They are laid-back, and intelligent. Like their business, they are yin and yang. Kristin enjoys Yoga, designing her own jewelry, and has a creative eye prevalent in the design of the lodge. Chris is a renaissance man, a scuba master and soccer player, who helped build the lodge and bar as well as the rain-water catchment system and solar showers. Kristin is a designer, Chris is a builder.
One day, I was walking down the beautiful path to the ocean. I passed by Kristin who had a huge smile on her face. She looked as if she was glowing. I walked up to the lounge and bar where Chris was working. He was counting fresh empanadas, made by a local indigenous woman. Her young son had delivered them to Chris who buys them as a courtesy. Chris was teaching the young boy how to count in English, and together they were saying, “Sixteen-Seventeen-Eighteen” as I walked by.
At that moment, I realized the beautiful smile I had seen on Kristin. She was walking through a jungle paradise lodge that she had built with her soul-mate. The tropical sun was shining through and she had just watched as her future husband patiently taught a young Panamanian boy how to count. I’m fairly certain the glowing smile I witnessed was a moment of joy, a feeling they both share, of being so blessed to be marrying each other.
